Mother and daughter duo Kryste and Debbie Gainey teamed up to open Ormond Beach’s newest ice cream shop, The Frozen Frog, located in Ormond Towne Square at 1498 W Granada Blvd.
The shop features Hershey’s ice cream flavors, milkshakes, sundaes, shaved ice, and they have an option that is gluten free.
The words displayed on their storefront, “Cool Treats. Warm Smiles,” represent their hope for the shop to be a place where families can come and feel free to enjoy each other’s company.
“You need to live your life with your gift,” co-owner Kryste Gainey said. “For me, that is finding reasons and ways to bring families together.”
According to Kryste Gainey, the road to building their dreams was not easy.
“I was going through a hard time in life and working several jobs, raising kids,” said Kryste Gainey. “A couple of years ago, my mom came to me with the idea about starting a snow cone business, and I thought she was crazy.”
They purchased a snow cone food trailer and did that for a while, until, one day, a revelation came to Debbie.
“I was out there in this parking lot one day, and I literally looked over here at this empty spot, and I saw a vision of an ice cream shop,” Debbie Gainey said. Then, she called her daughter and said, “We're gonna open an ice cream shop.”
At the time, "You're crazy, Mom,” were the words that came from Kryste Gainey's mouth.
Debbie Gainey just told her daughter, "I see it. I know that's what we're supposed to do.”
FROG in The Frozen Frog is an acronym for Fully Rely On God.
“That’s what we do. We fully rely on God around here,” Debbie Gainey said.
Kryste Gainey added, “That's what it's about in life and everything.”
