According to the Bunnell Police Department, officers arrested 33-year-old Joshua Alexander Walker of Palm Coast on Friday evening after two motorists reported he pointed a handgun at them during a traffic confrontation on U.S. 1.
Police said that at approximately 7:33 p.m. on July 31, officers responded to a reckless-driver complaint near Education Way and North State Street (U.S. 1). The two motorists told officers they were traveling south on U.S. 1 when a white Hyundai Tucson began swerving between lanes.
Investigators said that as the motorists passed the Hyundai near Education Way, they saw the driver point a handgun toward them. Fearing for their safety, they accelerated away, stopped at a safe location, and called 911.
Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies located the Hyundai traveling south on U.S. 1 near Old Dixie Highway and identified Walker as the driver. Police said his clothing matched the description provided by the victims.
Bunnell officers transported the two victims separately to conduct independent identification procedures. Both positively identified Walker and the Hyundai involved in the incident, police said.
Walker was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, a third-degree felony under Florida law. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and held on a $25,000 bond.
Police said deputies observed several firearm magazines in plain view inside the Hyundai's center-console cupholder while securing the vehicle. Bunnell officers impounded the SUV and transported it to the Bunnell Police Department to preserve potential evidence pending a search warrant.
On Monday morning, Aug. 3, Bunnell Police detectives obtained and executed a search warrant for the vehicle. During the search, detectives recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun and three loaded magazines, which were submitted into evidence.
Previous Related Case
According to public records, Walker previously faced the same felony charge following a separate road-rage investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office in May 2023.
In that case, two motorists reported Walker pointed a handgun at them near Palm Coast Parkway and Interstate 95 following a traffic dispute. The charging affidavit states Walker acknowledged displaying the firearm during the confrontation and allowed deputies to recover a loaded SCCY 9mm handgun from his vehicle.
Walker entered a no-contest plea to aggravated assault with a firearm on Feb. 27, 2024, as part of a pretrial intervention agreement. After completing the program, the State Attorney's Office entered a nolle prosequi on Feb. 26, 2026, ending the prosecution without a conviction. The current arrest occurred approximately five months later.
"A disagreement on the road never justifies pointing or displaying a firearm," Bunnell Police Chief David Brannon said. "In this era of open carry, when someone turns a traffic dispute into an armed confrontation, they gamble with their life and the lives of innocent people. Our officers and detectives, working alongside the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, moved quickly, protected the victims, secured critical evidence, and made the arrest. Bunnell will not tolerate armed intimidation on our roadways."
The Bunnell Police Department thanked the Flagler County Sheriff's Office for its immediate response and assistance throughout the investigation.
