Palm Coast and Flagler County residents raised $25,000 at a charity music festival for the animal rescue nonprofit S.M.A.R.T. of Flagler County.
The nonprofit rescues dogs who have been abandoned or found as stray in Flagler County, covering their medical and rehabilitation costs. It had its second annual Jam'n 4 Paws charity music festival fundraiser on April 11 at the Palm Coast Elks Club.
Three bands — The B.Y.E. Band, The Cat. 4 and Soul Fire — performed live while festival attendees could treat themselves to drinks and food trucks.
"This is what community looks like," founder Caroline Johnson wrote on the S.M.A.R.T. Facebook page. "Live music donated with love. Volunteers and fosters giving their hearts. Vendors and sponsors stepping up. And our community friends coming together for the animals who need us most."
In a text to the Observer, Johnson thanked the bands and every sponsor, volunteer and donor who showed up and helped raised the $25,000. The funds raised will support operational and medical costs for rescued dogs, like Shelly, a recently rescued puppy who is receiving critical medical care.
That support is lifesaving, she said.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you Flagler County," she wrote. "Thank you for showing up when it matters most."
