The three honorees were Bunnell Police Detective Jeff Traylor, Flagler Beach Police Officer Maria Guerrero and Flagler County Sheriff's Office Detention Cpl. Peter Descartes. With all three honorees absent, the awards were accepted by Bunnell Police Chief David Brannon, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly and Flagler Beach Chief Matt Doughney, respectively.

Traylor and Descartes were both in Washington, D.C., on Peace Officers Memorial Day, participating in activities honoring fallen officers at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Guerrero was also out of town working, according to the press release. Staly described Descartes' actions that prevented an inmate suicide.

Staly spoke about lives lost by those in law enforcement, crime decreasing in the county over the past seven years and how the three local law agencies work together.

Retired Sheriff's Office Chaplain Dom Scardigno opened the luncheon with a prayer. Kiwanian and Navy veteran Frank Consentino recited a poem he wrote and described his recent trip to Washington, D.C., as part of a First Coast Honor Flight.
