The 53rd class of the Palm Coast Citizens Academy graduated during the May 2 Palm Coast City Council meeting.

The Citizens Academy is a seven-week course that teaches residents about the city’s departments. The class met on Monday evenings from 6-9 p.m. to meet with city directors.

This graduating class had 33 members, and each person received a certificate of completion.

The academy is free, and the city offers two course sessions.

The next session begins in September.

Mayor David Alfin said he had attended the Citizens Academy 10 years prior.

“I’m so proud of all [33 of you],” Alfin said. “This is really magnificent.”

Heighter appointed to board

Also at the City Council meeting, council members appointed council member Cathy Heighter as the council’s liaison to the Flagler County Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board.

The board oversees the public transportation system for disadvantaged citizens in Flagler County.

It includes members from a myriad of organizations, including the Northeast Florida Regional Council and the Florida Departments of Transportation and Elder Affairs.
