Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested a man from Hastings, Florida after he fled deputies, driving through a farm field and crashing his vehicle.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of Jan. 3 off of County Road 304 in Bunnell. The pursuit ended with the male suspect crashing the vehicle and abandoning it and the injured female passenger to run into the woods on foot, according to a press release from FCSO. FCSO deputies and K-9 units found the man, arresting him on various charges.

The man, 30, was found with just under three grams of ecstasy and a hypodermic needle in his pocket, the release said. He also was found to be on inmate release at the time and driving with a suspended license. His probation was conditional, and included no driving or illegal drugs.

“Another dirtbag learned the hard way that if you run from our deputies, you will just go to the GreenRoof Inn tired,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “In his escape attempt, he also damaged farm crops and drove recklessly risking the life of his passenger and other drivers on the roadway. Great job by our deputies apprehending him safely.”

The pursuit began when a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a white Pontiac sedan. The vehicle sped up instead of pulling over and led the deputy on a chase down a service road in Flagler Farms, according to the arrest report.

The vehicle was noted to be driving recklessly along the dirt service road in the fields, the report said. When it reentered CR 304, the Pontiac was going over 100 mph, the press release said. The vehicle continued fleeing the deputy and driving recklessly through traffic south on CR 304, the arrest report said.

The deputy briefly lost visual of the Pontiac, the report said, until he found it overturned in a drainage ditch on Old Haw Creek Road. The female passenger had minor injuries from the crash, the report said, and she and a bystander who had stopped to help told the deputy the male driver had run into the woods.

Deputies and K-9 units were called in to search the woods, where the suspect was found. He was arrested on the following charges: aggravated fleeing with injury or damage; leaving the scene of a crash with injury; driving with license suspended/revoked; reckless driving with damage to person or property; possession of MDMA; possession of drug paraphernalia; three counts of violation of probation–felony.

The man had no prior criminal history in Flagler County, the press release said, but had narcotic and burglary-related charges from Putnam County. He is currently being held in the county jail on no bond.
