Three Jacksonville men were arrested Feb. 10 in connection with 26 vehicle burglaries in Flagler County.

The burglaries occurred between 1:45 and 2:40 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Madison Green and Tuscan Reserve Apartments.

The suspects broke at least one window on each vehicle.

While some cash, credit cards and other miscellaneous items were stolen, most of the cars did not have any items missing, and Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies believed the culprits were after firearms, according to their arrest reports.

Two firearms were stolen from two of the cars. Deputies later recovered the guns alongside other stolen items.

The three suspects — two of whom are brothers ages 20 and 21 — have each been charged with 17 felony counts of vehicle burglary and two felony counts of burglary while armed with a firearm.

During the investigation on Jan. 23, deputies used surveillance footage from nearby businesses to obtain a photo of the suspects’ vehicle, a Volkswagen registered to a Jacksonville resident.

One of the deputies received a call that the same Volkswagen was suspected to be involved in over 20 car break-ins in Daytona Beach that same morning.

Law enforcement officers tracked a pair of air pods stolen from Daytona Beach to two of the suspects — the brothers — in Jacksonville, and recovered the air pods, firearms and other the stolen items at their home.

Deputies also tracked the Volkswagen to its owner, whose 20-year-old son admitted to driving the Volkswagen during the time frame of the crimes, but denied smashing any car windows, according to his arrest report.

Cell phone data placed the suspects’ phones in the area at the time of the break-ins. Deputies are also investigating the involvement of at least one other person.

The men were arrested in Jacksonville on Feb. 10 and transferred to the Flagler County jail on Feb. 14, and were each booked on $64,000 bond.
