A man was pulled out of a burning vehicle in the early hours of Feb. 12 after it crashed into the end of a semi-truck.

The crash occurred at 3 a.m. on State Road 100 in front of the Tom Gibbs Chevrolet in Palm Coast. The sedan caught fire from the impact and Flagler County Sheriff Office deputies and local citizens worked together to get the driver from the sedan, according to a press release from FCSO.

One deputy used a fire extinguisher on the flames as another and citizens helped free the driver before the vehicle was engulfed in flames, the press release said. The driver and his passenger — found lying in the road next to the vehicle — were both taken to the hospital, one as a trauma alert.

“I commend our deputies and the citizens that assisted and likely saved the driver’s life,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.

Flagler County Fire Rescue arrived soon after the man was freed and extinguished the flames. The crash is being handled by the Florida Highway Patrol, the press release said.
