Daytona North residents can expect a slight detour on Water Oak Road between Walnut Avenue and Mahogany Boulevard to begin Monday (September 26) and last about one month.

“This temporary detour will accommodate the Water Oak Road Improvement Project,” said County Engineer Faith Alkhatib. “The contractor is working on a small segment of the 2.3-mile project between County Road 2006 and Mahogany Boulevard.”

The detour will divert traffic to Bayberry Street. The roadwork construction will typically take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Locals – those who live within the detour – will be granted access to their homes.

Flyers were distributed to area residents to explain the project and to provide contact information.

“As part of the ongoing Flagler County Roadway Improvements Projects going on throughout the county, we are working in your neighborhood to install new storm water drainage, rebuild the roadway subgrade and base, then asphalt pave roadway to include 11-foot travel lanes, 1-foot paved shoulders and 5-foot paved residential driveway aprons,” it states. “Utility relocations by AT&T, Florida Power and Light (FP&L), and Spectrum will also be taking place for the new roadway.”

The majority of the design and construction costs for the $5 million project are funded through the Florida Department of Transportation Small County Road Assistance Program (SCRAP) and its Small County Outreach Program (SCOP).

Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson did the design and permitting work for this portion of the paving of Water Oak, GAI Consultants will provide Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services, and the construction was awarded to P&S Paving.

“Flagler County, GAI Consultants, and P&S Paving are committed to working with our residents through the construction period,” Alkhatib said. “Every effort will be made to minimize any inconveniences. Cooperation with construction crews and patience with any brief traffic or access delays is always appreciated.”

Please direct any concerns or questions to Amy Stroger at Flagler County Engineering at 386-313-4047 or Carl Padgett, GAI Consultants at 904-349-8756.
