Thieves on the roadways and in our stores headline a busy weekend for the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. The FCSO Community Policing Division responded to 850 calls made to the Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center the weekend of April 29 to May 1.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, April 29, deputies were patrolling Royal Palms Parkway when they saw a silver Audi with an inoperable tag light, leading to the discovery of a stolen license plate on the vehicle.

The tag was reported stolen from Putnam County. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and 32-year-old Joshua Dey was arrested.

Dey told deputies that he had a warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and told deputies he threw Methamphetamine onto the floor of the vehicle once he knew he was being stopped.

Dey, of Palatka, has faced six felony charges since his first trip to the Green Roof Inn in 2017.

Upon a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered 1.5g of Methamphetamine, three Hydromorphone pills, two used needles and several other drug paraphernalia and equipment with residue.

Dey was arrested on multiple charges and is now back at the county jail on no bond.

Later that evening, deputies saw a vehicle in Bunnell fail to stop at a stop sign. Deputies pursued the car, attempting to conduct a traffic stop, and the driver began driving erratically and eventually stopped at a home on Papaya Street.

The driver, known to deputies as 61-year-old Leo Charette, stepped out the car and grabbed a knife from his back pocket.

Deputies de-escalated the situation and secured Charette, then took him to the county jail on charges of driving n a suspended license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He is also wanted in Volusia County for failure to appear in court for a charge of methamphetamine possession.

After midnight, deputies responded to a call about an intoxicated woman causing a scene upon release from AdventHealth Palm Coast.

The woman, a 40-year-old, was throwing objects at hospital staff and refusing to leave the property.

When deputies arrived, she remained uncooperative while being taken into custody for a Marchman Act, continuing to resist law enforcement and eventually kicking a deputy.

She was arrested for battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest with violence, and disorderly conduct.

Sunday morning, May 1, started when the FCSO received a call about a theft from Dollar General in Palm Coast, leading to the arrest of a 27-year old woman and a 39-year-old woman.

This duo was caught concealing products in their purses and then attempting to leave without paying for them.

Deputies made contact with both subjects and found $14.18 worth of soap in the 39-year-old's purse, along with a brown powdery substance in a clear plastic bag inside her wallet with a plastic straw containing residue.

The substance was confirmed to be fentanyl.

Both women were arrested.

“Our deputies handle a lot of calls and face dangers on a regular basis as they work hard to protect our community,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The quickest way to the Green Roof Inn is to threaten or attack one of my deputies or commit a crime in Flagler County. Hard work by the men and women in our agency helped get these criminals behind the bars at our jail. Our deputies did another outstanding job on a very busy weekend.”
