The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office had a busy weekend Jan. 28 to Jan. 31, engaging in community policing and responding to 721 calls to the Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center.

Deputies took part in a successful manhunt of a motorcyclist, solved the case of a stolen boat and trailer and cracked down on a repeat offender drug dealer, sending him back to jail.

It all began Friday afternoon, when deputies saw a motorcycle traveling on U.S 1 with no registration, and attempted a traffic stop.

Spotting the FCSO deputies, the 40-year-old male suspect sped up and fled. FireFlight would also join in and help track the suspect on C.R. 305. After he dumped the motorcycle, FireFlight and a K-9 helped deputies track him to a hiding spot in the woods near Forrest Park.

He faces charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting Officer without Violence, Driving While License Suspended and Reckless Driving.

While deputies were searching for the fleeing motorcyclist, the Real Time Crime Center was also busy tracking a stolen vehicle in the area of State Road 100.

Deputies were advised by the Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center of a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for a stolen silver Cadillac DeVille. It was ultimately located at the Mobile Gas Station near I-95.

Deputies arrested the 37-year-old driver for Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge and Grand Theft Auto. The car had been stolen in Alachua County and had eluded deputies earlier in the day.

Saturday night was a busy shift for FCSO deputies conducting foot patrol near Sunset Boulevard when they saw a silver Buick running in a residential parking lot.

The passenger side door of the car was open. But when deputies approached, the 22-year-old male occupant shut the passenger door.

As deputies spoke to him, they saw a green leafy substance scattered on his hoodie and pants. They also noticed an odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Deputies saw the passenger acting suspicious and realized he was trying to hide a black bag.

Deputies searched the black zippered bag and recovered multiple plastic baggies consisting of 3.7g of methamphetamines, 6.7g of cannabis, 1.2g of fentanyl, a hydrocodone 325mg pill, .5 of MDMA, one dose of acetaminophen and one additional pill that could not be identified. The man, who's previously been arrested on multiple drug charges, also was found to be in possession of $954 cash.

He was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Oxycodone, Possession of Hydrocodone, Possession of MDMA, Possession of Marijuana Under 20g, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Officer without Violence.

“This is a great example of all the hard work our deputies face daily,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The deputies who worked this weekend had to act fast to track stolen vehicles, handle subjects resisting arrest and deal with a habitual poison peddler. These were not easy cases, and I’m proud of the entire team for handling it all to keep our community safe.”
