A mechanical issue caused a Spirit Airlines flight to perform an emergency landing at Daytona Beach International Airport around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 7.

The flight originated in Philadelphia and was headed to Fort Lauderdale when smoke became present and the flight diverted to DAB. Airport spokesperson  Joanne Magley said in an email that DAB crew aided the crew and passengers of Spirit Airline as they waited from representatives from the airline.

The representatives traveled from Orlando and Spirit mechanics were able to fix the issue. The airplane left DAB for Fort Lauderdale just before 5 p.m.
