The new Flagler County Sheriff's Office operations center off Commerce Drive near the Government Services Building is expected to be finished by Oct. 10 of 2022.

The pier foundations for the building have been installed, and concrete and steel subcontractors are readying paperwork to move forward, Lon Neuman, operations manager for Ajax Building Corporation, told the Flagler County Commission at a Sept. 20 meeting.

So far, the work is coming in about $200,000 less than expected, Neuman said.

Foundation work on the building is expected to begin over the next two weeks as workers prepare for the tilt-wall construction process, Interim County Administrator Heidi Petito said.

The commission approved an approximately $16 million phase two guaranteed maximum price proposal for the work.

Work begins on Carver Center expansion

Concrete blocks will be placed this week for the expansion of the George Washington Carver Center, Petito said at the County Commission's Sept. 21 meeting.

The Carver Center, which hosts Flagler Schools youth programs but is owned by the county government, had been slated for renovation since 2015, but the work was repeatedly delayed until the county approved the first phase of the $900,000 project in February.

The first phase of the work will add 3,259 square feet to the center, while a second phase would add an additional 4,055 square feet.

The renovation will add multi-purpose rooms, a lobby area, new bathrooms and four offices, and make the building ADA-compliant.

Bunnell Police to temporarily relocate to county government complex

Flagler County is preparing for the temporary relocation of the Bunnell Police Department to the county's Government Services Building complex.

The shift comes as the Bunnell city government prepares to relocate to a new city hall location due to water damage at the current Bunnell City Hall.

The new city hall building will be constructed south of the Wendy's building on State Road 100, near the site of the under-construction Flagler County Sheriff's Operations Center.

Survey seeks resident opinions on public transportation needs

The Center for Urban Transportation Research is surveying Flagler County residents about their opinions on the county's public transportation needs.

The survey is part of the process of developing a Transit Development Plan, which is required by the Florida Department of Transportation and can be used by the county to secure transportation project funding.

The Transit Development Plan is updated every five years, and the latest update must be adopted by the County Commission by Dec. 1.
