Oktoberfest is coming to Ormond Beach on Saturday, Oct. 16.
Hosted by the Ormond Beach Historical Society, the fundraiser at the Anderson-Price Memorial Building will be one of the organization's biggest events of the year. It will feature a catered dinner by To Better Days Wine Bar and Bistro, German beers courtesy of S.R. Perrott and Ormond Garage, and live music by Orlando polka band The Bavarians.
“It’s an opportunity for everyone to get back together and have some fun after a very long year," said Mia James, co-chair of the Historical Society's Special Events Committee.
All proceeds will go toward helping the Historical Society's mission to continue bringing educational programs to town, as well as aiding in the preservation of historical structures such as the Three Chimneys. The funds will also help the Historical Society in its endeavor to open a museum of Ormond Beach history at the MacDonald House, which is undergoing exterior renovations.
This will be the third time the Historical Society holds its Oktoberfest event, but the first time Mia and her co-chair, Joy Brown, have been at the helm of the Special Events Committee for the fundraiser. With COVID-19 continuing to affect in-person events, it wasn't an easy feat to put the fundraiser together.
“It has been a challenge, but it’s also been a lot of fun," James said. "We have a great group of people that we work with and we’ve gotten a lot of support from the community, as far as sponsorships for the Oktoberfest.”
The Historical Society is selling a maximum of 125 tickets for the event. Two other fundraisers on the horizon are the Holiday Tour of Homes, which will be virtual again this year, and in February, the Historical Society plans to put on its first Murder Mystery Dinner Night event, to be held at a home on John Anderson Drive.
As for this event, James said she is personally looking forward to hearing The Bavarians perform.
“None of us probably listen to polka on a daily basis, but there’s something about putting a beer in your hand and listening to some polka music, with some people dressed up in costume that just kind of puts you in that Oktoberfest mood," James said.
