Copping the copper

1:33 a.m. — First block of Southland Road

Grand theft. A technology company is pressing charges against a 55-year-old Palm Coast man who was found to have stolen 450 pounds of copper wire, valued at over $2,200, over a two-week period.

According to a police report, a supervisor with the company stated that the man stole the wire while he was working, and that recently, they had found about 556 pounds of missing copper wire from a building in which the man worked. The company performed an internal investigation and discovered the man was the culprit.

Security footage showed the man leaving his normal work area and heading to the location where the copper wire was kept. He entered the storage room and re-emerged with a hand cart loaded with two boxes of copper wire. He was seen doing this on three occasions.

The supervisor told police that during the company's internal investigation, the employee did admit to taking "some copper," according to the report.

The driver missed and the boy was able to get away and hide. The boy told police he believed the driver was trying to steal his bike, as he was riding a BMX bike worth over $2,000. The boy's father told police he would like to press charges if the driver is identified.

Dubious exchange

8:59 p.m. — 600 block of South Nova Road

Suspicious incident. Police responded to a local convenience store after receiving a call from an Ormond Beach resident about a possible fight inside a car.

The resident told police that when he parked outside the store, he heard yelling coming from an SUV. He said he saw a man in the driver's seat make "a swinging motion" toward someone in the rear of the car, after which he heard a scream he said sounded like a woman in distress asking to be let out of the car.

The driver got out of the car and prevented the second person from leaving the car. The resident went inside the store to notify the employees, but by the time he came out, the SUV was leaving the parking lot.

The store employee was unable to pull security video, and the manager refused to come in and help, according to the police report.
