On Monday, May 10, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a male who stopped breathing. Deputy Stamps and Deputy Jenkins arrived at his home on Crazy Horse Court in Palm Coast before paramedics to find a 60-year-old male laying on his bed with no pulse.

FCSO deputies started performing CPR. The responding deputies then administered two shocks from their agency-issued automated external defibrillator, which resulted in the man regaining a pulse. Lifesaving measures continued while being transported to Advent Health by Flagler County FireRescue. He remains in ICU in stable condition.

“I want to commend Deputy Stamps and Deputy Jenkins who arrived on the scene and took every measure to save this man’s life,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is a great example of how training and having an AED come together to save lives in Flagler County. Our agency vehicles are equipped with life-saving equipment enabling the deputies to not have to wait for medics to arrive on the scene before taking life-saving measures because time was of the essence. I’m proud of the immediate aid our team was able to provide to give him a fighting chance. Our prayers are with the man and his family and we hope make’s a full recovery.”

FCSO patrol deputies carry AED’s in their patrol vehicles and are ready to provide lifesaving assistance should someone experience cardiac arrest and deputies are first on the scene. In these medical emergency calls our Communications center dual dispatches Fire-Rescue and a nearby Deputy. In 2019, FCSO was awarded over $20,000.00 of AEDs through a grant program from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
