Flagler County Administrator Jerry Cameron may leave his position by the end of June, he wrote in a letter sent to Flagler County commissioners on Feb. 12.

“My contract with the BoCC requires a 90-day notice, but I feel that this Board deserves to know what my plans are,” he wrote. “It is my intent to try and complete several outstanding items by the end of June, which would allow me to leave at that time. Should those tasks be completed sooner — or later — than the end of June, I will adjust my schedule accordingly.”

Cameron said the county’s Leadership Academy, formed under his tenure, is “producing a core of competent leaders.”

“Fortunately, you have several members of your leadership team that can easily fill the interim position while you determine how to proceed with selecting a permanent administrator,” he concluded.

Commissioner Andy Dance mentioned Cameron’s letter at the commission’s March 1 meeting, asking Commission Chairman Donald O’Brien if the county has a process for seeking Cameron’s replacement.

“Don’t have a process at this point,” O’Brien said. “We don't have a resignation; we have a letter from Mr. Cameron giving us an outline of what his thoughts were, but we don’t have a resignation, so we don’t have anything specific to react to, in my mind, as of today.”

Commissioners Joe Mullins and Greg Hansen agreed with O’Brien.

Dance said he felt developing a timeline would be appropriate.
