The voluntary pre-kindergarten program at Belle Terre Elementary School has been delayed a week due to COVID-19 related quarantine.

According to Flagler Schools spokesman Jason Wheeler, three members of the VPK staff at Belle Terre, including the instructor, have been placed in quarantine due to contact tracing following an off-campus event.

The school's VPK class is expected to resume on Aug. 17.

In accordance with the policy of the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia counties, the district is unable to provide instruction for students in the program without a certified VPK teacher, Wheeler said.

Wheeler said the district's early childhood education coordinator, Janine Killmer, learned of the Belle Terre staff's quarantine midday Tuesday, Aug. 10 -- the first day of school.
