101 years of women voting: AAUW Flagler celebrates Women’s Equality Day 2021

Alice Scott Abbott, a Flagler County suffragist, who was inducted into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame in 2020, will be honored.

Join American Association of University Women Flagler County Branch in celebrating Women’s Equality Day 2021, 101 Years of Women Voting.

AAUW Flagler will present the plaque received from the Florida Commission on the Status of Women, commemorating Alice Scott Abbott’s 2020 induction into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame, along with the U.S. Flag, flown over the U.S. Capitol in her honor to the Flagler County Historical Society.

A full program, including the Flagler Palm Coast High School JROTC unit, Girl Scout Troop 54754, Boy Scout Troop 400, with featured speakers — Catherine Robinson, mayor of Bunnell; Andrea Totten, Flagler County judge; Suzie Johnston, mayor of Flagler Beach; Maruchi Azorin and Rita Barreto, commissioners, Florida Commission on the Status of Women — is planned. AAUW Florida President Pat DeWitt is expected to attend.

This year’s event will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Bunnell, located at 205 N. Pine Street, Bunnell. The sanctuary offers room for attendees wishing to social distance and/or wear a mask.
