Greg Schwartz, the principal of South Daytona Elementary School, will become the new principal at Flagler Palm Coast High School, according to a news release from Flagler Schools.

Schwartz takes the seat previously held by the late Tom Russell, who was FPC's principal from the 2019-2020 school year until his death from COVID-19 complications in December.
In taking his new post, Schwartz will also become principal of his own two sons, Grant and Garrick: Both attend FPC and are on the wrestling team. Garrick also plays football for the Bulldogs, and Schwartz "has flipped his share of burgers in the concession stand," according to the school district's news release. Schwartz's daughter, Anna Theresa, is a gymnast.
Schwartz's final round of interviews involved questions from students, parents, faculty and staff, according to the news release.
“I wanted to make sure our major stakeholders at Flagler Palm Coast High School had a part in determining their next leader,” Flagler Schools Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt said, according to the news release. “There are easier and faster ways to do this, but it is important that we fill this vacancy with the right person to move FPCHS forward. Greg is that person.”
“I am excited and humbled to join Flagler Palm Coast High School," Schwartz said, according to the news release. "It’s a school built on academic excellence, top-tier athletics, extraordinary performing arts and a multitude of activities and opportunities for our students.”
Schwartz earned a bachelor's degree in education from Hanover College and a master's in educational leadership and administration from Nova Southeastern University, according to the news release, and began his career as a permanent substitute at Atlantic High School and then a coach at Seabreeze High School. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal intern and principal in Volusia County, according to the news release.
