To celebrate the end of the first school year for the Polish Saturday School, the community gathered Sept. 6 to watch the kids accept their diplomas and celebrate the 11th Polish Pierogi Festival.
The children were able to complete their year of study after months of waiting due to the pandemic. When school was in session, the kids learned to read and write the Polish language and learn more about Polish culture. Starting off the celebration, first, they announced the teachers then shortly after the teachers handed out diplomas to their students.
Then Adrian Piotrowicz, a 9-year-old member of the school and son of Karolina Piotrowicz, celebrated by singing a few songs.
This wasn’t Adrian’s first singing event. He started singing around the age of 2. He practices every day, takes voice lessons and sang for an event at Town Center two years ago.
“It makes me happy,” Adrian said, before performing his cover of ‘‘Dance Monkey’’ by Tones and I.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in naming its newest K-9 partner who is joining the agency following the retirement of K-9 Valor.
The new K-9 is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois. Deputy Robin Towns, a six-year veteran with the FCSO and newly transferred member to the FCSO K-9 Unit, will be his handler. Prior to his role on the FCSO K-9 Unit, Towns was a school resource deputy at Rymfire Elementary School, a patrol deputy and is a member of the Emergency Response Team.
“Deputy Towns will be a great addition to the K-9 Unit and we’re excited to see him and his new partner become a great team,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Before the new team can get to work, we need to find his K-9 a name! The community has helped us in the past and we’re asking for your help again. We look forward to seeing what names are submitted for our newest K-9.”
Name suggestions for the new K-9 can be submitted on the FCSO Facebook or by emailing [email protected]. Submission deadline is 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. The new name will be announced Sept. 11.
Lori Vetter Bowers’ “Floating Lily” garnered the most votes and was named People's Choice winner Sept. 1, concluding the Freestyle Photography virtual show at Flagler County Art League.
All four of Bowers’ entries won awards in this show, including “Third-Best of Show.”
