Security First Insurance donated over 300 pieces of technology on Monday, Nov. 9, to two local elementary schools in need of technology for virtual student learning.
A total of 117 Chromebooks, 90 Dell desktop computers and 132 monitors were provided to Osceola Elementary and Ormond Beach Elementary, according to a press release. OBE Principal Shannon Hay said that the donation by Security First will give children in families without a computer access to school learning platforms from home, including iReady and Waterford.
"This partnership is evidence that Security First Insurance Company cares deeply about our children and understands the achievement gaps caused by access and opportunity," said Hay in the press release.
Osceola's principal Lynn Bruner echoed similar sentiments.
“Osceola’s students, staff, and family are extremely grateful, and as their leader, it is difficult to find words that adequately express my gratitude," Bruner said. "Security First’s donation of computers will positively impact our school community and greatly help to fill a need that was present even prior to the pandemic."
In addition to these donations, Security First also provided the Beacon Center with 100 cellphones to help further the nonprofit organization's mission to empower domestic abuse survivors.
The press release states that Security First, which is headquartered in Ormond Beach, felt a responsibility to support the local community as it faces current challenges during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ormond Beach is our hometown, and it’s important to our entire family of employees that we do all we can to give back to our community, especially now when technology is playing a key role in educating our children and phones can be essential for helping survivors of domestic abuse rebuild their lives," said Security First President Melissa Burt DeVriese. "I am very grateful that we are able to help our community."
