Detective Dennis Lashbrook, of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, identified a residence in Daytona North that was actively engaging in the manufacturing and distribution of child pornography.
The FCSO Major Case Unit, as well as the Sex Offender Detective and Cybercrimes Detective, served a search warrant on the residence on Jan. 23. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office assisted FCSO in serving the warrant. After a full review of the forensic evidence from the search warrant, Lashbrook was able to make a probable cause arrest on Feb. 25. This has been the second residential search warrant of its kind that has been executed Lashbrook since he began working with the ICAC.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of manufacturing child pornography. There were images and video that showed men engaging in sexually explicit acts with children as young as 2, according to the arrest report. In addition, there were images and video that showed children being forced to perform sexually explicit acts on animals.
The suspect was taken into custody at his home and processed at the Flagler County Jail.
“Sex Offenders and deviants in this area who think they’re going to operate with impunity have got another thing coming,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Our Major Case Unit, and especially with our new proactive Cybercrimes Unit, are not going to let up. If you are engaged in this behavior we are going to get you because these types of operations are only going to increase. I also want to thank Sheriff Chitwood and the VCSO for providing us assistance with the VCSO ICAC team.”
The suspect was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach, who refused to accept him. The DJJ accepts offenders on a points basis. In this instance, the suspect's crimes were not worthy of enough points for him to be held by the DJJ. He was released to the custody of his guardians.
