Palm Coast Fire Department Driver Engineer Patrick Juliano has been named the Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club's 2019 Firefighter of the Year, according to a news release from the Palm Coast Fire Department.
In addition to serving as a driver engineer, Juliano has taken on the role of the department's public information officer and is the lead communications officer for public messaging, according to the news release.
Juliano is also commander of the Fire Department Honor Guard and coordinates the patriotic ceremonies at Heroes Memorial Park, and was recently elected president of the Palm Coast Professional Firefighters Local 4807.
The Fire Department's command staff selected Juliano for the award because of his commitment to excellence in the public information officer program and for enhancing residents’ quality of life through community engagement and public education, according to the news release.
“Driver Engineer Juliano works closely with our fire department command staff and our city communications and marketing division in assuring high-quality information is shared with our community,” said Fire Captain Tom Ascone, who nominated Juliano for the award. “Patrick is innovative in ways of sharing our messaging, building our community reputation and ensuring that our citizens receive the right information at the right time.”
Juliano joined the city's Fire Department in 2006 as a volunteer firefighter, was hired as a career firefighter in 2008 and has served for more than 17 years.
He took a two-year hiatus to serve as the northeast Florida regional manager for Florida’s Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater, then returned to the Palm Coast Fire Department in 2017 and was promoted to driver engineer in 2018.
He is now on the lieutenant’s list for future promotion, according to the news release. He is also certified as an Advanced Public Information Officer.
The Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club has been a local chapter of Kiwanis International for the past 40 years, and gives this award to firefighters annually during Fire Prevention Week.
The award was presented by Kiwanis Chapter President and Flagler County School Board member Dr. Maria Barbosa and Awards Chairman Frank Consentino. Capt. Ascone and Lt. Jeffrey Poeira also attended the awards presentation.
