Your Town: Flagler children’s art on display at AdventHealth

Those who visit the emergency department at AdventHealth Palm Coast will note some fresh new art on the walls. The artists are students at local Flagler County Schools and new artwork is displayed each quarter as part of the hospital’s Art of Healing program, according to a press release.

Flagler Palm Coast High School senior Nelson Morales, Wadsworth Elementary School fifth grader Colten Miller and Indian Trails Middle School seventh grader Ashley Sempselle are the artists.

“Putting the artwork here in the hospital has given our students the opportunity to have an impact on the healing process,” said Sabrina Crosby, Flagler County Schools administrative coordinator of communications and special projects. “In addition to helping patients, this has a lasting impact on the child or young adult creating and displaying the artwork. This impact can influence them as they make decisions on where they will go in life and how they can benefit humanity. That’s powerful!”

Who are your ‘Community Stars’?

“Celebrating Our Community Stars” recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that help light up the Palm Coast community and make it a special place to live. The Rotary Club of Palm Coast will host its second-annual event on Sept. 20 at the Palm Coast Community Center, with emcee Eddie Herrera, CEO of Alliance Financial Partners. Tickets will go on sale in July.

Nominations for Community Stars are open until July 1. Awardees will be selected from nominations submitted to the Rotary Club of Palm Coast and will be chosen by the club’s Award Selection Committee. Project SEARCH students graduate with jobs

Six graduates of the Flagler Schools TRAIL Transition program, which is designed to help youth with disabilities transition into real vocational opportunities, now have jobs in the community.

This past school year, the program partnered with Project SEARCH, a nationwide effort that works to secure competitive employment for people with disabilities, help the students get hands-on training in their last year of the TRAIL program.

At Princeton Village, Michael Alexander and Trevor Garner are now dietary attendants, Angelique Bonacci works in life enrichment and Juliana Sclafani is a housekeeper.

Now, David Ellis is a custodian with Flagler County Schools, and Ariana Tarallo is a concierge employee at Sabal Palms.

Flagler Woman’s Club awards scholarships

The Flagler Woman’s Club awarded four $2,000 scholarships to local seniors on Wednesday, June 12, at its annual Scholarship Luncheon. The 2019 recipients are Tyler Perry, Brock Underberg, Derek Hart (HOBY Ambassador), Megan Brink and Daniella Sbordone. The Woman's Club also honored our major donor Gerard Slovak and the memory of the late Jim Sheehan.
