AJ Barr was recently voted onto the Board of Trustees of the Palm Coast Arts Foundation, according to a press release. Artist, educator and former corporate professional in technology-based systems, her expertise in finance and the technology industry will enhance the Foundation’s Board as it moves forward on plans of a cultural arts complex in the newly declared Innovation District of Town Center.
“AJ has a tremendous background in financial management, which fills a void in our organization,” PCAF President Sam Perkovich said in the news release. “Her appointment as treasurer of PCAF is needed as we continue reaching higher levels of capital investment in our community. Careful financial planning is crucial during these complex stages of the arts district plans.”
A new board has been installed at the Italian American Social Club. The installation dance was held Saturday, June 8. The board is made up of: Director Lois Big Mountain, Secretary Roe Barletta, Director Joanne Pelliccia, Director Daria Troina, Vice President Rich Lauria, Director Eugene Tontodonato, President Colette Kraemer, Treasurer Bill Luke, Director Dominick Matra and Director Ed Uribe.
In recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, AdventHealth hosted special brunches to celebrate cancer survivors, according to a press release.
On June 4, nearly 100 community members joined AdventHealth Palm Coast for a similar event held at the Daytona Beach Cancer Center two days prior. Guests participated in an icebreaker activity and art activity to connect all attendees, and the Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland gave an inspirational speech.
“I think it’s fair to say we all know someone in our life that has been impacted by cancer,” Holland said during the event. “I, myself, have someone close to me on this journey currently. It’s a very scary disease and can change lives in an instant. It forces you and your support system into a rollercoaster of emotions as we process what’s next.”
Each October, the city of Palm Coast partners with the AdventHealth Palm Coast Foundation to host the Pink Army 5K to raise funds and support for local residents with breast cancer. Holland noted that the 2018 Pink Army 5K was one of the most successful ever, raising more than $16,000 to provide education, mammograms and biopsies to aid in the early detection of breast cancer.
