12:17 p.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard
Criminal mischief. A 36-year-old South Daytona man detained by police at a local supermarket told police that, while he had entered the store with the intent to steal, he didn't actually leave the store with stolen merchandise.
This was true, as the store's loss prevention employee saw the man throw the item — a camera — down to the ground when he saw he was being watched, according to the police report. The man had previously used a razor blade to cut the camera's security packaging.
Police arrested him due to prior failure to appear in court. He was taken to jail.
12:42 p.m. — 100 block of North Yonge Street
Disturbance. Police broke up a fight between roommates at a local mobile home park which started after one of them discovered the other was a convicted felon and should not have been allowed to live at the park, according to management rules.
The upset roommate also told police that the woman had moved in with him five weeks ago and hadn't paid rent yet. While police were on their way to the home, the woman also phoned police and told them her roommate had threw things at her and cut her leg.
She told officers that her roommate had lied over her lack of rent payment, and that he had started the argument because she rearranged the living room. She said he then grabbed her inhaler and threw it at her, breaking it and scratching her leg.
The roommate admitted to police he was upset with the woman because she was a convicted felon, and said that "people come over to do drugs at all hours of the night." He said the woman scratched her leg herself, and that he wanted to evict her.
Because the woman refused to pursue charges, and the lack of evidence on scene, police declared the case closed.
8:22 a.m. — 400 block of Wild Olive Avenue
Information. A 97-year-old Ormond Beach woman called police to report that $140 had been taken from her garage, and named a suspect. However, the story the woman told them caused the officer to suspect she may suffering from the onset of dementia.
The woman said the female suspect was from the 1950s and 1960s, and that she used to help her with her lawn "before she became educated," according to the incident report. The female wasn't the only suspect the woman named. She also accused a man who drove an 18-wheeler to mow her grass, and was driving so fast that dirt was landing on the roof.
The woman also told police she hadn't been to the grocery store for over a week and had no food. When asked what she had been eating, the woman replied with a profane version of the word "anuses". She declined giving any family information, saying she didn't want to be placed in a retirement home.
Police made sure the woman was assisted with food, and made attempts to contact her family.
