A Gainesville Farm has announced a partnership with Copperline Coffee and Cafe in the Port Orange Pavilion to make the farm’s weekly fruit and vegetable boxes available to the Port Orange area.
Frog Song Organics is a 60-acre certified organic fruit and vegetable farm located in Alachua County and has been certified organic by Quality Certification Services since 2012.
“We are excited to be expanding our community to include Port Orange and hope to play an important role in helping area residents accomplish their goals of eating healthy, organic, locally grown produce,” said Amy Van Scoik, co-owner of Frog Song Organics, in a press release.
Residents will also have the opportunity to purchase a share of Frog Song Organics’ harvest and in return, receive a weekly box of fruits and vegetables, a concept known as community supported agriculture. The concept "has been proven to be good for farmers, great for community members who reap the benefits of having available farm-fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables to enjoy and incorporate into their family’s diets," according to a press release by the farm.
Frog Song Organics has been operating its CSA program in the Gainesville, Orlando, and Jacksonville areas.
Co-founders John Bitter and Van Scoik started the farm in 2011 to produce nutritious food for the community and create employment opportunities. They aim to demonstrate that farming can be accomplished with the “triple bottom line” – respect for our human, ecological and economic resources, the press release states.
Beginning this fall, Frog Song Organics will begin delivering CSA farm=share boxes to Copperline every Wednesday for pickup between 5 and 7 p.m.

Jimmy Hula's at 65 Dunlawton Ave., now open since Aug. 12, will celebrate its arrival to the community with a grand opening event planned for Labor Day weekend.
The The 3,700 square-foot restaurant had a final site inspection on Aug. 7, and was issued a certificate of occupancy on Aug. 9. Redevelopment of this infill site has improved the overall "Down Under" area of the Port Orange Town Center CRA with a building that meets current architectural codes, improved landscape buffering and controlled access points for traffic management, according to the City Manager’s weekly update.
The upcoming Taco Bell at 1748 Dunlawton Ave. is set to open sometime in September, according to the chain's public relations department.
Taco Bell will be housed in the former Pollo Tropical building. The exact date of the fast food restaurant's opening is still unknown. Until then, progress continues to be made on the building. The sign is up alongside the Taco Bell colors.
