Nearly 200 participants laced up for the first Pink Tutu 3K presented by Halifax Health on Oct 14 in partnership with Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach, the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA and Runner’s High Timing and Race Management.
Held at Tanger Outlets in recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the run/walk event promoted breast health awareness and raised funds for the Halifax Health - Foundation’s Center for Oncology Fund and the American Cancer Society of Volusia - Flagler. Approximately 20 American Cancer Society-registered breast cancer survivors were hosted by Halifax Health to participate in the race.

Ride to raise money for suicide prevention
On Nov. 3, Halifax Health will present the inaugural Ride to Stop Suicide Poker Run. The motorcycle ride will begin at 9 a.m. with a blessing of the bikes at Halifax Health – Child and Adolescent Behavioral Services, 841 Jimmy Ann Drive, Daytona Beach.
The Ride to Stop Suicide Poker Run is being held to raise awareness about the epidemic of suicide.
The final stop at Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach will feature entertainment and food from 11 am to 4 p.m.

Bank collecting food
The Ameris Bank annual Helping Fight Hunger food drive initiative is taking place during October. All Ameris Bank locations are collecting nonperishable food items.
A food bank in every town with an Ameris Bank location will receive the donation of goods collected at the local bank branch, plus a monetary donation from Ameris Bancorp. The Ormond Beach location is 1259 W. Granada Blvd. Visit amerisbank.com/HelpFightHunger.
15-year anniversary celebrated
Mark Annon, born and raised in Ormond Beach, is celebrating 15 years at Southern States Management Group. A graduate from Mainland High School and student at Brevard College, Annon is a Community Association Manager who currently overseas eight local associations and operations for both the Daytona and Palm Coast offices of Southern States.
Southern States Management Group Inc. specializes in not-for-profit residential and commercial community associations.
Development planned at Halifax Plantation
LV Lending, a local privately-held lender focused on residential and commercial investment properties, has announced the $2.64 million loan closing for the acquisition of 42.5 acres of land within Halifax Plantation, the planned community in Ormond Beach.
The property is located on the southwest corner of Halifax Plantation on Roscommon Drive off Old Dixie Highway. The developer, Jaswinder S. Bhatti, plans to transform the land into a mixed-use development with an urgent care center, assisted living facility, restaurants and townhomes. The project is currently in site development and the developer intends to break ground by fall in 2019.

Grant to help breast cancer patients
Charlene’s Dream Inc. has been awarded a $10,000 education grant from The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation.
Charlene’s Dream is a community-based resource center where nurses and professionals volunteer to provide teaching and support for those affected by cancer to help them cope with the disease. Charlene’s Dream also provides tangible items such as donated wigs, new mastectomy bras, breast prostheses and lymphedema sleeves to assist women with breast cancer who can’t afford these products otherwise.
The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation receives money through the sale of a specialty license plate, “End Breast Cancer.”

Daisy awards announced
Halifax Health recently honored two registered nurses , Alexandra English and Diane Stadler, as winners of the community health system’s quarterly DAISY Award recognizing extraordinary nurses.
Alexandra English, of New Smyrna Beach, works in Halifax Health Medical Center’s medical surgical/bariatrics unit.
“I really enjoy being able to be there for my patients when they are going through really tough situations and helping them through their health issues,” English said.
Palm Coast resident Diane Stadler works in the medical surgical telemetry unit. The five-year nursing veteran says what she loves most about her profession is “being able to make a difference.”
Halifax Health encourages patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees to nominate a nurse for this quarterly honor.
