A 65-year-old Plantation Bay resident was walking his toy poodle and his Shih Tzu the night of June 19 when he noticed two larger dogs, one black and one white, being walked without leashes by a woman in the area of Ashwood Court and Sterling Bridge Drive.
The black dog, he later told a Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputy attacked his 5-pound white toy poodle, knocking the man to the ground and injuring the small dog, according to a deputy's case report.
The woman, he said, gathered up her two dogs and left without providing any information. He took the poodle to an emergency animal hospital and drove around the community looking for the large dogs.
A deputy who reported to the scene noted that the man had cuts on his foot, which the man said he believed he'd gotten when he fell but wasn't sure.
The man told the deputy that the woman who'd been walking the dogs appeared to be in her 40s and was white with dark hair. He described the dogs she was walking as pit bulls.
The deputy warned the man "not take matters into his own hands with the pit bulls" and notified Flagler County Animal Control, according to the deputy's case report.
The extent of the toy poodle's injuries were unknown at the time the deputy wrote up the case report.
