A 30-year-old Palm Coast man pulled a gun on his ex-girlfriend when she showed up at his Whittington Drive, Palm Coast home to claim belongings July 18, according to deputies.
The two were co-signers on a loan for a car, which the man did not want her to take. They'd had an on-again, off-again relationship for about two years, the woman said.
The woman, a 22-year-old, reported to deputies that she'd gone to claim belongings and the car from the home of her ex-boyfriend, Peter Gura, and that he opened the door holding a silver firearm and "waved it" at her, then pointed it at her and told her to get off his property, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office charging affidavit.
Deputies went to the house at about 9:20 p.m. and ordered Gura out of the house. He came out holding a flashlight and dropped it when deputies ordered him to.
He confirmed that the woman had come to retrieve belongings and said he had been expecting trouble over the car and had placed a handgun on a table by the door. He said he was the true owner of the car because he was listed first on the vehicle loan. But both were listed on the registration, deputies found.
When a deputy asked him if he'd had the firearm in his hand, Gura "was tentative and stated he was 'pretty sure' it was on the table" during his encounter with the woman, according to the charging affidavit.
When a Sheriff's Office commander asked Gura why he felt the need to have the gun, Gura replied that he wasn't sure what to expect when the woman came to the door. "(Gura) states that he 'shouldn't not done that' referring to answering the door with a gun," the report states.
When requested, Gura showed deputies the gun, a Ruger revolver. Deputies seized the gun as evidence and arrested Gura on a charge of domestic violence aggravated assault.
