Following Atlantic High School's hiring of Spruce Creek defensive coordinator D.J. Mayo as the Sharks' next head coach, Hawks sophomore linebacker Tyler Berrong announced his decision to transfer from Spruce Creek to Atlantic on Dec. 21. Berrong, who helped lead the Hawks to a 8-2 record and a berth in the FHSAA Playoffs, announced the decision via Twitter.

"This was one of the toughest decision I've had to make," Berrong wrote, "but I've decided to transfer to Atlantic high school!! Say what you gotta say but I'm doing what's best for Me!!"

Berrong, who holds offers from the University of Florida and North Carolina, was one of the area's top defenders in 2017 and will be a welcomed addition for a program that failed to win a game this past season.

The girls team has been on a tear since their 48-44 loss to Father Lopez on Dec. 13. The Lady Sharks have won seven consecutive games since, including a 67-33 win over Williston on Dec. 22, a 50-38 win over Grace Christian and a 63-47 win against Cameron.

The Sharks' Shakawanza Brown scored a game-high 15 points against Grace Christian and a team-high 17 points against Cameron, including a combined 19 assists and eight steals between the two games.
