Palm Coast’s City Council is preparing to approve an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for grant funding for the construction of a multi-use path on Lakeview Boulevard.

The state would provide $505,472 for the project. The location currently has no sidewalk, and a 16-year-old Matanzas High School student, Michelle Taylor, died there in March of last year after she was struck by a car while walking along an unlighted stretch of the roadway after dark.

The proposed 8-foot-wide path for pedestrians and bicyclists would stretch from Lakeview’s intersection with London Drive South to its intersection with London Drive North, a length of about 5,200 feet.

The path would be built on the west side of the road, and the project would also involve adding crosswalks, trash receptacles and benches.

The council will vote on the grant approval at an upcoming City Council meeting.
