Thompson Pump employees get rolling for Toys for Tots
Thompson Pump’s annual Toys for Tots drive yielded 52 bicycles and helmets for the Volusia County chapter of Toys for Tots. The funds came directly from its employees, with the family-owned company matching employee donations.
Thompson Pump, based in Port Orange, organized the employee fundraising efforts with its “Change War$” competition. Employees also volunteered in the Toys for Tots warehouse help sorting the toys.

Student raises money for hospital
Sierra Hinzman, a senior at Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, recently made a donation of $751.42 to Halifax Health Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The money was raised from a service project spearheaded by Hinzman at her school in which students paid to have a “dress down” day.
Ormond man wins boat raffle
Everglades Boats, a manufacturer in Edgewater, held a nationwide raffle for a new boat last year and the winner turned out to be from Ormond Beach.
Matt Montgomery picked up his 2017 Everglades 243cc on Dec. 14 at Boaters Exchange New Smyrna Beach.
The raffle was a partnership of the boat manufacturer and the Fishing for Muscular Dystrophy Foundation to raise money for the foundation. Raffle tickets cost $100 and thousands were sold nationwide. Sales generated more than $200,000 for FFMD and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“We are so proud to be partnered with such an incredible cause and hope the boat brings the Montgomery family lots of joy for years to come,” said Bryan Harris, vice president of sales and marketing for Everglades.
Fishing for Muscular Dystrophy was created in 2015 to raise money in fishing tournaments for the foundation. Visit fishingforMD.com and evergladesBoats.com.
Boyd named manager
Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has named Aletha Boyd as the manager of the operating room. Boyd, of Daytona Beach, has 10 years of experience as a registered nurse and seven years as a surgical technologist. Boyd earned an associate degree in nursing from Daytona State College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville University.
Employees create wreaths
Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center employees created 43 Christmas wreaths and donated them to the Children’s Home Society and Halifax Urban Ministries to help local families in-need decorate for the Christmas season. Following this year's “To Us a Child Is Born” theme, each hospital department was challenged to decorate a wreath to commemorate the expansion of the Daytona Beach hospital's pediatric services.
Tanger presents PINK check
Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach presented a donation of $5,590.85 to Halifax Health Foundation last month to benefit Halifax Health Center for Oncology programs and services. The funds were raised in the PINK Campaign in October.
