Jacquelyn Malloy has 15 years in the education field, four of which at Buddy Taylor Middle School. She is the Teacher of the Year for the Eagles.

As a seventh and eighth grade science teacher, her lessons are a mix of direction instruction, discussion and student-centered activities, she said.

“When planning a lesson, I am mindful of the students’ individual needs and incorporate instructional strategies to foster critical thinking skills,” Malloy said. “The classroom environment is relaxed and the learning goals are clear.”

Beyond the classroom, she spends her weekend mornings walking the beach and picking up trash.

“The beach is my happy place,” she said. “My hope is that this simple action will inspire others to practice environmental stewardship.”

Malloy credits her ability to develop relationships with her students for one of the reasons for the award.

“I truly enjoy teaching and getting to know my students,” she said. “Acts of patience, kindness, and compassion demonstrate both my genuine investment in my students’ wellbeing and provides a safe environment for learning.”
