Ormond Brewing Company seeking to add live music, more food trucks

Ormond Brewing Company is hoping to bring in local food trucks and artists with the city's approval as its owner comes before the Planning Board on Thursday, Aug. 9, to be able to do just that.

Business owner Justin Robinson filed a special exemption request with the city to allow live outdoor music in its patio as well as a request for a land development code amendment to permit food trucks on site. Live outdoor music is considered by the city as an outdoor activity use, and in the light industrial zoning district the brewery is located at, it is only allowed via a special exception.

For Robinson, the requests are par for the course for a brewing company.

"Breweries and food trucks kind of go hand-in-hand, as well as breweries and live entertainment," Robinson said.

Aside from that, Robinson added that there aren't many places food trucks can conduct business in Ormond Beach. Having them stationed by his brewery will be a way to support them, he said, as well as to help the brewery promote its brand.

The brewery is currently undergoing a transformation of its own too. Robinson said he is in the process of expanding Ormond Brewing's taproom by an extra 1,000 square feet and adding more bathrooms. The brewery has also expanded to 10,000 gallons of capacity per week.

Robinson hopes to have the expansion completed by the brewery's fourth anniversary this coming November.

If the requests are approved by the Planning Board, they will reach the City Commission for final decision in September.
