Halifax Health nurses win DAISY award

Two of Halifax Health’s registered nurses were recognized for their hard work via a DAISY Award, an international program that celebrates the care given to patients by nurses on a daily basis.

Daytona Beach’s Jackie Rivers and Kathy Chorjel, who is originally from Detroit, received the award in April. Rivers works in the Center for Women and Infant Health and Chorjel works in the medical intensive care unit.

The DAISY foundation started in 1999 after the family of 33-year-old J. Patrick Barnes noticed the care nurses provided to him before he died. DAISY stands for diseases that attack the immune system.

Security First Insurance employees were able to show their children what they do on the job during the company’s Bring a Child to Work Day on Tuesday, Aug. 8.

From a company breakfast to a scavenger hunt where the children had to find a photo of Locke Burt, Security First’s chairman and founder, the 70 kids in attendance were able to spend the day at work with their families and see first-hand what they do. The children also got to hear about the company's history as well as spend time at their family member's desk.
