The Mainland Buccaneers continued their winning ways, blowing out Bartram Trail 48-22 on Monday, Sept. 5, in St. Johns.
The game was rescheduled due to weather conditions, but Mainland seemed to make the most of the its extra time.
After a Kevon McCrary conversion on 4th-and-1, C.J. Wilson scored the game’s opening touchdown from a yard out. Denzel Houston called his own number and scored on a seven-yard run.
After giving up two points from a punt block that led to a safety, Mainland responded when Houston hit Jhii Taylor for a 71-yard touchdown pass. 21-2. On the next drive, he found Brian Jenkins for a 15-yard score to make it 28-8. After a Bartram Trail cut into the lead with under two minutes to go in the half, Houston took the Bucs down field and connected with Tank Bell on a three-yard touchdown before the half. Mainland failed to convert the two-pointer, ending the half with a 34-15 lead.
Houston returned in the second half to connect with another different receiver – D’Marcus Adams – for a four-yard touchdown pass, and he ran in another score for six total touchdowns.
