Flagler Humane Society recognized its volunteers with an ice cream social on Saturday, April 23, at the animal shelter in Palm Coast.

Two volunteers, Manny Confusione with 1,309 hours, and Leatrice Amone with 1,117 hours, were awarded the Presidential pin.

“Manny works at our greeter desk and is known by guests as ‘the face of FHS’ since his smile is the first thing many see when they walk through our doors,” said Amy Carotenuto, FHS Executive Director. “Our thrift store would not run as well as it does without Leatrice’s help. It is a pleasure to have her smiling face here almost every day her hard work and dedication is second to none.”

Eight volunteers with more than 500 hours in 2015 were presented with a gold service award pins; 20 volunteers with more than 250 hours received a silver service award and pins.

“We are very proud of our volunteers and are grateful for this chance to acknowledge them,” Amy Carotenuto, FHS Executive Director said. “Flagler Humane Society could not keep its doors open without the great work of its volunteers.

Veterinarian and FHS Board President, Dr. Gary Shelton, echoed Carotenuto's sentiments.

“Flagler Humane Society housed over 2,800 animals last year, decreased animal intakes by 9 %, and reduced the time it took for animals to be adopted by 23 percent, in 2015. We would not have been able to make such strides without the help of our dedicated volunteers,” Shelton said.
