New York Noir: The History of Black New York

2 p.m., every 1st, 2nd, and 4th Thursday of the month, African-American Cultural Center, 4422 N. U.S. 1. For more information, call Reinhold Schlieper at 437-8402. This critically acclaimed film examines the history of New York’s African-American citizens and culture from the early 1600s through today. Featured are segments on civil rights, politics, business, military heroes, the Harlem Renaissance and much more. Above all else, this film honors and pays tribute to the many great contributions African-Americans have made to New York, the nation, and, indeed, the world. [from the DVD’s cover].

FLAGLER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MONTHLY BUS TRIPS

10 a.m. Holden House, 206 East Moody Boulevard, Bunnell.  Learn about historic and interesting Flagler County sites with local author Bill Ryan as your guide.  The bus leaves at 10 a.m. from the Holden House, and returns at 2:30 p.m.  The cost is $20 per person which does not include lunch at Bull Creek Fish Camp.  To make reservations, or for more information, call 386-439-5003.

Support groups

Breast Cancer Support Group

5 p.m.,  meets the third Thursday of every month at Florida Hospital Flagler 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, classroom D. Free breast cancer support group, open to women and men with breast cancer, offers emotional support for those who are newly diagnosed or in treatment, as well as survivors.

Prostate Cancer Support Group

9 a.m., meets the third Thursday of every month at Florida Hospital Flagler, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, classroom D. This free support group is designed for men who are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer and survivors, as well as men who have not been diagnosed but are interested in learning more about prostate cancer. The group offers a comfortable setting for discussion, education and support through the treatment and recovery process.

 Diabetes Support Group

9 a.m., first Thursday of every month, at Florida Hospital Flagler, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, classroom A. This support group is open to anyone diagnosed with diabetes and their caregivers. It is led by a Florida Hospital Flagler diabetes educator and topics include nutrition, medications, new monitoring devices, research updates and the emotional aspects of diabetes.

The group is free to attend and an RSVP is not required. To learn more, call 231-3178.
