UPDATE: Regular 911 service from Bright House Networks phones has been restored, according to a county news release sent at 3:31 p.m. May 28.

ORIGINAL STORY:

911 calls made from Bright House Networks phones are being automatically re-routed to the non-emergency Sheriff's Office number because of a technical problem, according to a county news release sent at 1:35 p.m. May 28.

Emergency Management Chief Kevin Guthrie said there is a chance that some 911 callers using Bright House Networks phones will get a busy signal.

"If a customer gets a busy signal, they should call back," he said. "This is on Bright House Network phones, and only on Bright House Network phones."

Callers should provide the dispatcher with detailed location information and not hang up until the dispatcher does, according to a county news release, as the calls will not be going through the emergency dispatch system.

Bright House Networks has not told the county how long it will take to fix the problem, Guthrie said.
