Meth lab in a hotel room?

3:01 a.m. First block of Kingswood Drive. Narcotics: A woman called the Sheriff's Office from a hotel saying that a woman she was staying with was making meth in their hotel room, and had stolen her wallet. She said the meth-maker was preparing to leave in a black Dodge Durango. A deputy drove to the hotel and saw a black Durango preparing to leave, and stopped it, according to a Sheriff's Office report. There was a young woman in the front seat who "did not seem surprised by me detaining her," the deputy wrote in a report. The deputy asked the woman for ID and she said she didn't have any, but she told deputies her name. The deputy checked hotel records and found out she'd lied about her name, and confronted her. The woman, 34, said she was afraid she had a warrant out of Volusia County for failure to appear in court in reference to her driver's license being revoked. The deputy arrested her on a charge of giving a false name while detained. The deputy asked for her consent to search the Durango, and she refused to give it. The Sheriff's Office towed the car to its impound lot.

$750 in fraudulent gas station charges — in six days

10:46 a.m. 2700 block of S. Central Ave, Flagler Beach. Fraud: A 63-year-old man called the Sheriff's Office after he discovered about $750 worth of fraudulent credit card charges on two cards that he rarely used. He told a deputy that he believed someone must have retrieved his information from a Mobile station on the 3400 block of U.S.1 in Bunnell on Nov. 10, which was the only place he'd used both cards at the same time, according to a Sheriff's Office report. The cards were used at gas stations in Plant City, Winter Haven, Lakeland and Bartow in 10 separate instances between Nov. 28 and Dec. 3, and the fraudulent charges totaled $755.08. There were no fraudulent charges within Flagler County.

FPL doesn't ask for prepaid cards

12:30 p.m. 200 block of County Road 330 West, Bunnell. Fraud: A 77-year-old woman got an unexpected call from a man saying he was from the Florida Power and Light company. The man said he was on his way to her home to shut off her power for nonpayment. He told the woman to immediately call another phone number, or the power would be shut off. The woman was afraid a power outage would spoil the food in her refrigerators, and she wasn't absolutely certain she'd paid her FPL bills, so she called the number, according to a Sheriff's Office report. A man answered and told her to go to a convenience store in Crescent City and put money on a prepaid card and forward it to him. She refused, but gave the man her Discover card number and agreed to pay $200. The woman decided to call her daughter about the strange phone call, then realized it must have been a scam and called the bank to cancel the card. There weren't any fraudulent charges. She called the Sheriff's Office, and a deputy looked up the strange phone number and found that it could be from California.
