The only witness isn’t talking
12:50 p.m. First block of Cypress Point Parkway
Larceny: A 35-year-old woman stuck her wallet in the baby seat in her shopping cart — next to her baby — at a local store. She was looking at baby clothes when she looked back at the cart and saw that her wallet and phone were missing. She asked a store employee to call her phone, and eventually found the phone in the women’s room, along with her wallet. But the thief made off with $200 cash. A store employee told a deputy that the store has asked for surveillance video. There were no suspects or witnesses — other than, presumably, the baby — to the crime.
A thief with domestic aspirations?
13:01 p.m. First block of Secretary Trail
Residential burglary: A man was doing a regular inspection of a vacant home, and arrived to discover that all of the appliances had been stolen. A sliding glass door was unlocked and slightly ajar. The appliances had all been there the previous month, but many people had come in and out of the home since, and the man said someone may have left the sliding door open. A dishwasher, microwave and range were stolen, as well as possibly a refrigerator; employees of a realty company managing the property weren’t sure if the fridge had been installed yet. A security system had been installed on the home at the time of the theft, but no one had activated it.
Thief steals local man’s kayaks
2:57 p.m. 300 block of Wellington Drive
Larceny: A 62-year-old man told deputies that someone stole his 9.5-foot Perception Swifty kayak. The thief had cut two bike locks on the kayak. The man said it was the second time in two months someone stole kayaks from his yard. The Swifty was worth about $350. Deputies canvassed the area but didn’t find anything.
