The Irish Social Club of Palm Coast presented its annual golf tournament proceeds to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, at the club’s June meeting. The 2014 proceeds of $2,400 bring the total contribution to Florida Hospice Care to an estimated $18,400.

Hospice representatives in attendance were Diane Trask, Bill and Carol Tol and Elmer and Pat Stainbrook.

The Irish Social Club has held a golf tournament since 2003. Participants, numbering 68 in 2014, do not have to be members of the Irish Social Club, but simply have a desire to play golf and contribute to the community. The 2014 tournament was held at the Pine Course at Pine Lakes, followed by a luncheon and prizes awarded to participants.

Shepherd of the Coast celebrates 25 years of ministry
A special anniversary calls for a special celebration. So, rather than the usual 8:15 a.m. contemporary worship service and the 11 a.m. traditional service, members of Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church united joyfully in one unique blended service June 8, to thank God for 25 years of ministry serving Palm Coast.

In reminiscing about the church’s progress, charter member Gail Herron recalled originally meeting in the Knights of Columbus building, using a table for an altar, and teaching Sunday school in the barroom.
Since then, the congregation moved to a Fellowship Hall, 101 Pine Lakes Parkway. That building was used for worship until 2005, when the sanctuary was completed.

The fellowship hall is now the home of the Open Arms of Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Child Development Center which provides Christian fellowship, care and teaching for 2-5 year old children during the school year.

The Rev. William Douthwaite spoke about charter members of the church Gail and Harvey Herron, Bob and Carol Ross, Richard and Loretta Black, Ray and Dora Fowler, Carmen Vogel, Kathleen Brown and Dawn Cardanas.

He explained that SOTC members are also volunteers who work at and support such outreach ministries as Alpha Pregnancy Center, Samaritan Ministries, Family Promise, Flagler County Resource Center, Open Arms School, Cold Weather Shelter, Lake City Medical Centers Recreation Therapy, Prayer Shawl Ministries, Shepherds’ Quilters to name a few.

“We are blessed to be able to worship and fellowship together,” Douthwaite said. “Perhaps our greatest blessing and a good description of who we are, is our working together in so many areas of outreach to the Palm Coast/Bunnell area.”

Recycling offers rewards for Palm Coast residents
Recycling prevails as one of Palm Coast’s most popular, environmentally effective community programs, and 11 active recyclers are the latest winners in the quarterly drawings for the city of Palm Coast’s Waste Pro Rewards Program.

Gift cards valued at $25 were awarded to Linda Clyde, Robert Perham, Alice Hernandez, Jack Griffith, James Darlington, Christopher Metz, Stephen Kayworth, Charles Modica, Jim Harnish, James Dunton and Ann Paris. The winners were selected randomly from all participants of the Rewards Program.

The level of recycling in Palm Coast has grown dramatically since the city joined the Waste Pro Rewards Program in June 2012, said Dianne Torino, the city’s contracts and risk manager. In the past two years, residents have recycled over 7,918 tons of bottles, paper, magazines, glass jars, plastic containers, newspapers, junk mail, cereal boxes, phone books and flattened cardboard.

To sign up for the program, call 888-234-8211 or visit wasteprorewards.com.
