A total of 23 candidates for the School Board, the Flagler County Commission and the Palm Coast City Council have qualified for upcoming elections.

Primaries will be held Aug. 26 for the partisan Flagler County Commission elections and for all races in which more than two candidates are competing for a seat, necessitating a run-off.

Those include both Palm Coast City Council seats up for election — District 2 and District 4 — as well as the School Board race for District 2.

General elections will be Nov. 4.

PALM COAST CITY COUNCIL

Two seats will be open for Palm Coast City Council elections this year. City Council elections are nonpartisan.

Councilman David Ferguson, who represents District 2, announced Friday, June 20 that he will not seek a second term. There are three candidates for the District 2 seat: Joel Rosen, Heidi Shipley and Anne Marie Shaffer. The two with the most votes in the primary will face each other in November.

Councilman Bill Lewis represents District 4, and will run against Woody Douge, Steven Nobile and Norman Weiskopf. The top two vote-getters in the August primary will run against each other in November.

FLAGLER COUNTY COMMISSION

Two Flagler County Commissioners are up for reelection this year.

Commissioner Frank Meeker, a Republican who represents District 2, will be challenged by Republican Dennis McDonald. The candidate that wins the August primary will face off against Howard Holley, who has no party affiliation, and write-in candidate Carole Ruffalo in November.

Commissioner Nate McLaughlin, a Republican who represents District 4, will be contested by Republican Mark Richter in the Aug. 26 primary election. The winner will run against Denise Calderwood, who has no party affiliation, and write-in candidate William Teepe. Republican Frank Sanhudo withdrew his candidacy.

FLAGLER COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

The Flagler County School Board has three members up for reelection. School Board races are nonpartisan.

Andy Dance, who represents District 1, will be challenged by Maria Barbosa in August. The candidate with the most vote will take the seat.

Trevor Tucker represents District 4 and will be challenged by Michael McElroy in August.

John Fischer, who represents District 2, will be running against three candidates: Toni Baker, Lynnette Callender and Janet McDonald. The two candidates with the most votes in the August primary run against each other in November.

Residents who are registering to vote for the first time, or who would like to change their party affiliation before the primary election, have until July 28 to do so. For more information, call the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Office at 313-4170 or go to flaglerelections.com.
