Gary Yeomans of Mercedes-Benz of Daytona Beach raised nearly $30,000 for Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation Sunday.

Gary Yeomans of Mercedes-Benz of Daytona Beach raised nearly $30,000 for Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation Sunday.

The Mercedes-Benz Dealer Championship Golf Tournament was held at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast. Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation Executive Director Trace Pendry said  the tournament will fund a special project at their Memorial Medical Center Main Campus in Daytona Beach.

“We’re going to be constructing a center for health and wellness,” Pendry said. “So all the proceeds from this tournament will go towards future costs of this project. We are hoping to have it completed within the next 12 to 15 months.”

This is the first year the dealership is pairing up with a charity. Pendry said they are more than happy to be the recipients.

“Right now it looks like we are right around $30,000,” Pendry said. “That more than exceeds the expectations we had. Gary Yeoman sits on the foundation board; he is one of our board of directors.”

Pendry said Yeomans, an Ormond Beach resident, was a big force behind the event.

“This is all Gary,” Pendry said. “The expenses are coming through the Mercedes-Benz dealership. So when I tell you $30,000. that’s all profit. There’s no cost in there because the dealership is taking on the cost of event. It’s been a huge effort that he has taken on personally. He’s really done a lot of work on this one.”

But Yeomans won’t take all the credit. He said Mercedes-Benz of Daytona Beach General Manager Dominic Ford did all the work.

“We had a lot of help from the hospital,” Ford said. “It was a team effort. We rolled our sleeves up and made it happen.”

Yeomans said he started the tournament to give something back to the community. “It is just the right thing to do.”
