Making a cool exit

5:33 a.m. First Block of Flagler Plaza Drive. Burglary.
Something tripped a local supermarket’s alarm early Saturday, so a store employee played the surveillance video to check it out.

The video showed a young man wearing jeans and a dark hat running from the ATM to the back of the store.

The employee called the Sheriff’s Office, thinking the thief may still be inside.

When deputies arrived and searched the perimeter, they found no one. But a hole had been cut through one of the freezers at the back of the store.

Investigators believed the suspect gained access through the roof and fled after the alarm went off.

This just gets better and better

1:52 a.m. First block of Palm Harbor Village Way. DUI.
Deputies stopped a car when they suspected the driver was under the influence.

But they found something more: The passenger was a suspect in an aggravated assault with a firearm in European Village Dec. 28 — and he had a gun with him that matched the description of the one used in the case.

Deputies seized the gun as evidence and arrested the driver of the car for driving under the influence.

Schoolyard fight comes home

10:50 p.m. First block of Pilgrim Drive. Weapons complaint.
A woman called the Sheriff’s Office saying she heard shots fired outside, and that she thought they were directed at her home.

Deputies found three 9mm shell casings in the street in front of the house, and a bullet hole in the garage door.

Witnesses said they heard a car door slam, shots fired and a vehicle speed away, but no one actually saw the vehicle.

Deputies recovered one round from the garage and placed it into evidence.

The victim said she thought the shooting might be retaliation for an altercation her teenage son had at school the previous week.
