But Commissioner James Stowers says he is concerned about some of the details.

Ormond Beach City Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday supporting the Volusia Safe Harbor Program, a proposed plan to provide a transitional shelter that would be centrally located in Volusia County with the goal of reducing homelessness.

The Volusia Council of Governments is urging local governments to adopt resolutions to support the plan and has requested that the Florida legislature assist in allocation of funding.

Commissioner James Stowers expressed concern that a resolution of support would indicate approval of all of the details, such as locating the facility in central Volusia County.

“Will a homeless person in an urbanized area want to go out there?” he asked.

Mayor Ed Kelley said the program was just a concept and that the details have not been worked out. All commissioners voted to support the program.
