Flagler County deputies have a few new tools in their arsenal: 80 Automated External Defibrillators bought with funds from Palm Coast traffic citations.

The AEDs cost a total of $90,400, and the 80 purchased are enough for every road deputy to have one, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bob Weber said in a news release.

“Deputies are often the first to respond to an emergency scene. In the event of a heart attack, these AEDs can be used to save a life until medical personnel arrive,” Sheriff James Manfre said.

The deputies learned how to use the machines at a Friday training session provided by the Sheriff’s Office Training Unit and AED manufacturer Bound Tree Medical.
