The Matanzas High School drama department will present “Figments” as their fall comedy production. The show, run by new drama teacher Amy Mackay, opened last weekend, but for the first time in Matanzas history, it's running for a second weekend.

This dramatic comedy revolves around Rick Jacobs, a playwright with a wild imagination. As Rick is struggling with a case of writer's block, the many figments of his imagination take the stage and lead the audience through a wacky adventure. Upcoming shows are 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, at Matanzas High School. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for staff and students.

Reading Counts! Congrats to Cody Newton
Cody Newton, a student in Debbie Kryspin’s class at Wadsworth Elementary School, is the first second-grade student at Wadsworth to reach 100 Reading Counts points this school year.

“This is quite an honor, and we are all very proud of his accomplishments,” Kryspin said.

Reading Counts is a program that allows students to take comprehension quizzes on selected books. The points they earn increase with the difficulty of the books.

Cody earned a reading medal for reaching this challenging goal. He has already set a new goal to reach 200 points. When he does, he will be able to take the class mascot, R2D2, home for the weekend.

FPC Student Government wins first place for Positive Behavior project
The Student Government Association of Flagler Palm Coast High School attended the Southern Association of Student Councils Conference in Greenville, S.C. last week, and they took home a first-place win in the Project of the Year competition in the Southeast Region (covering 15 states) in the School Spirit Category for their Positive Behavior Supports Assemblies.

Eight members of the FPC SGA had the opportunity to experience not only the change of seasons and fall colors but motivational speakers, workshops, swap-shops and networking.

During the conference, sophomore Amanda Wise was chosen to act as the projects review chairwoman and asked to lead a committee to review the rules and descriptions for the Project of the Year Competition. Wise was then invited on stage to give a report to the 1,500 delegates of the conference.
